RealCare Babies Bring "Reality" to Motherhood
When my daughter River was born, I remember feeling completely blindsided by the sheer lack of sleep and the overall neediness of my newborn, and I wished someone had been able to prepare me. With the RealCare babies, we are able to do just that. Anywhere from a few days to a week, we charge our girls to care for the babies as if they were their own….so for twenty-four hours a day, they are changing diapers, feeding for hours, burping, rocking and minding their little “babies”. The program has been very successful at simulating the challenges new mothers will face. It has encouraged a few to reevaluate their readiness for caring for a child, and it has prepared some of our parenting moms for the next season in their lives.
I have been blessed to administer such a tangible, effective training program. Thank you to The Children’s Fund for making this program possible!
