As this year’s holiday season kicks off and we are surrounded by the hustle and bustle of party planning and gift shopping, I have found myself more grateful this holiday season, than possibly ever before. As I contemplate the many ways in how this year feels extra special, one thing alone comes to mind - “LifeHouse”. Several months ago, I surrendered to God’s will for my life as he brought me to the LifeHouse family and I joined as the Director of Administration in August.  I knew immediately, it was where I needed to be. What I did not know was just how much joy and how perfect this journey would be.
 
The past few months seem like a whirlwind, the days spent with LifeHouse are anything but ordinary. This is to be expected, right? Although I love spending time with our residents and getting to know each of them – I never expected to find myself spending the weekend with them, as a respite house parent.
 
But it happened.
 
So there I was, driving to the house to spend the weekend with the girls, and feeling very unequipped to do so. However, the moment I arrived it was smooth sailing. All of the fears washed away. In fact, I was quite impressed by my ability to care for these girls, and it was FUN! It was no longer about all the details and schedules and it was more so about genuinely spending quality time with these young ladies….and spending quality time with myself.

So this year, is extra special to me, because of these young ladies. Through them, I have rediscovered many things that may have gotten lost in the holiday “business” before. LifeHouse has reminded me of the true meaning in friendships, fun, laughter, trust, courage and most of all, unconditional love.
 
So my wish for you all, this year, is to give yourself this special gift. Give yourself the gift of spending time at LifeHouse. You can come for a weekend or only stay a few hours. It is up to you. Let these beautiful girls and their babies remind you of what the holidays are all about.
