Two Girls in a Pickup Truck

Volunteer Dawn Schauweker

“Seeing lives being changed, one day at a time, through the ministry of LifeHouse, knowing the girls, the babies are being offered new life” – these are the things that keep Dawn Schauweker volunteering at LifeHouse Houston. Dawn has been friends with Sue Baumgarten for years, and like so many who become involved in LifeHouse, it was Sue’s enthusiasm and love for the ministry that drew Dawn into volunteering to work with LifeHouse. Little did she guess, however, that she was going to be mowing the lawn! She laughs when she tells about “throwing the lawn mower into the back of a pickup truck” and heading out with Shelley Cowart (wife of LifeHouse board member Ben Cowart) to cut the grass.

Most of the time, though, Dawn’s volunteer work takes the form of event planning and organizing. She plays an integral part in all of LifeHouse’s special events, including golf tournaments, galas, and barbecues.

When she isn’t managing events, Dawn manages to stay busy. Son Caleb, 14, has gotten her involved in lacrosse, and she currently serves on the board of the Clear Lake Lacrosse Association, where her organizational skills have been put to good use in their recent tournament. Dawn is a nature girl: she loves traveling with husband John, especially for snow skiing; she is an avid reader of non-fiction, and she loves National Geographic and the Discovery Channel. And, just in case you were worried about all of that being enough to keep her busy, she works out four or five days a week – at 6:30 a.m.!

Thank you, Dawn, for giving your time and energy to save lives at LifeHouse.
